Digital Literacy
Hoax is a consequence of the digital era. Hoax is massively coming equally with the opening of information’s door. And one of the solutions to encounter it is with literacy. The key to literacy is knowing how to get the right and complete information or having knowledge related to it. As a young person, it is an easy thing to validate the information on the internet. But, for boomers, it’s hard.
As we know that lots of hoaxes spread in the family group WhatsApp. As we know too, that boomer is the common person who spreads hoaxes on social media. That’s happened because they are lack digital literacy. As we usually talked bad about them because of it, actually, we have a big role on their literacy level.
The main problem of why they are still spreading hoaxes is because they couldn’t check the information on the internet. The problem is so simple, basic, and sad at the same time.
One of my experiences according to that is actually there is a boomer that couldn’t use a browser because he didn’t know/understand about it. But at the same time, he could operate WhatsApp well because of his job demands. So, the only source of information he got is the television and WhatsApp groups. It was a shocking fact for me. And that’s why he really believed the information from the WhatsApp group, furthermore, the one who gave the information was his friends. And of course, he believed it because it was like when we exchange information when we meet in person.
